En teoretisk modell som er anvendbar for sosialt arbeid i somatiske sykehus - også ved andre tapsopplevelser enn dødsfall. Forfatteren beskriver en dynamisk prosess der pasienten/pårørende beveger seg mellom sorg/tap og nyorientering. Modellen illustrerer på en god måte sosialt arbeid i sykehus, der synliggjøring av muligheter ofte skjer parallelt med støttesamtaler.
